Deer season 2008

Thomas and I went up to my parents' again for deer season this year. We were hoping that we would be able to get each of our deer early on Saturday morning so that we could relax the rest of the weekend. We went out to the area on my Uncle's land where we hunt about 6:30 am on Saturday and set up our hunting stools to wait for sunrise. We are not in it for the sport, just the food, so we had warm clothes, stools to sit on, shooting sticks for to support the rifles to shoot from and radios to talk to each other on. :) Yep, we are not the mighty woodland hunters.

About 5 minutes after sunrise, I started my deer call. I sit there and quietly whisper "Here deer, deer, deer, deer" over and over a few times. Shortly after that, Thomas clicked on the radio telling me that he sees two deer directly in front of him. Of course, that is to MY right, through the trees, but that's okay. He tells me that they are stopped so I tell him to take the shot.

He does, and the larger of the deer lopes about 2 steps and disappears. There were a few other smaller deer with it that bolted, but one deer just stood there. So, I shot it. :) I didn't think I hit it, but when we went to go get his deer, there it was. So, we were done shooting by by 7:35...sunrise was at 7:24. We were pleased. However, we had to drag them up a fairly hefty ravine. UG! We got the first one (mine, much smaller) up the ravine and went down for the bigger one (Thomas'). They were also dropped in a swampy area...my boots are not waterproof! We are getting hip waders for next year!

It took us quite a while to get the second one up the raving. A friend of my dad's came out and helped us drag it to the truck. We were quite thankful for that! We got back to the house around 10 and promptly took a nap!

Dad couldn't go with us on Saturday, but he got his in the same field on Sunday morning. So, we will all have good food for this next year!

Here's the pics.

I like that my deer has his tongue hanging out!

Office Update -

Well, its almost been a year since the office remodeling began, and I'm happy to say that it is almost done. Other than the trim (that will be done in the next couple of weeks), and some organizing of cords and my personal office, it is pretty much done. I put pictures up on the walls this week. Here are the treatment room & acupuncture room.

Halloween 2008

Once again we hosted Halloween at our place. It was a small gathering this year, but it was fun! Everyone came in costume again, as per request. Here are some pictures of the various people & costumes.

Thomas trying to get in....we didn't let him until much later! :)

Gerry -- aka: House

Todd -- aka: Harry Dresden

Michelle & Kevin -- cop & prisoner (Chris was out of town for training, apparently, he also had a prisoner costume)

Guess which one is Thomas? He sat out there and scared people as they came in.

Dennis & his girls.

Dennis & me "fighting".

Me - I decided to go for fun this year, and this has to have been my most comfortable costume yet! Of course, I got rid of the gloves very quickly!

Dennis & Kara -- even rotting corpses get kisses from witches!

Dennis & Samantha - they even get kissed by cute little girls!

Of course, it wouldn't be OUR GROUP without the obligatory "sitting at the food table eating too much and talking a lot" part of the evening.

We did eventually go downstairs after the kids went to sleep. Here's Kara relaxing on the therapy ball drinking EVIL wine.

Wii FUN

As I posted a while ago, Thomas and I bought a Wii one evening. I did go ahead and get the Wii Fit, and I'll admit that I'm addicted to the thing! It is awesome! The games are fun, challenging, and I definitely get a work out when I play on it. We had Dennis & Kara over one evening for some Wii fun, and it was an evening of much merriment and laughing. Its fun to watch people figure out how to use their center of balance to shift into proper positions and such for the games. I can certainly see how the Wii Fit would help people get into shape if they don't already exercise. It is easy to spend an hour playing the games! I have to admit that some of the yoga, strength, balance and aerobics games are tough. It is definitely a great purchase for anyone who wants to be active and have fun at the same time.

Of course we bought some shooter games as well. In all, we currently have the basic Wii games of bowling, boxing, tennis, ect. as well as the Wii Fit, two shooter games, a Ninja game, and now the DDR.

I'll post some video of people playing various games later.
